Cosgroves Physiotherapy Centre has been established for over 20 years. 

Previously based in Atherton it moved into its purpose built premises in April 2010 and is now located on the A6 in Westhoughton, Bolton. 

With its own onsite secure parking the centre is fully equipped throughout with specialist equipment and therapy rooms to aid patients in their rehabilitation. 

We pride ourselves in providing the highest levels of care in a relaxed and comfortable environment. 



Stuart Cosgrove MCSP SRP Member OCPPP

Stuart Cosgrove physiotherapist  

Stuart qualified in 1982, working in the NHS for 10 years and specialising in sports injuries and back and neck conditions. 

He went private in 1987 and has since worked with many World Class Athletes such as Dorian Yates, World Champion Bodybuilder and Boxer Ricky Hatton.

Stuart has lectured G.P’s at Bolton Medical Institute and has also been on the Faculty at The International Shoulder Conference 2009 for strength athletes.  He has run courses on Sports Injuries and Spinal Manipulation for other physios and has lectured internationally to other strength athletes on training techniques.  He was himself a former Mr Britain.



John Mosley BSc Hons MCSP SRP

John Mosley Physio at Cosgroves  

John is a highly experienced  Chartered Physiotherapist specialising in musculo-skeletal disorders.  As a graduate of physiotherapy, John also has a first degree in sport and exercise.  Whilst in the final stages of a Masters level degree John has maintained his interest in sports and enjoys running to marathon distance, football and golf.

With qualifications in many forms of manual therapy including manipulations John has completed the Society of Orthopaedic Medicine exams.  Further qualifications in acupuncture, injection therapy and exercise rehabilitation have assisted him to treat many athletes and sporting stars.




Charlotte MacGill BSc (Hons)


Charlotte is our qualified Sport Rehabilitator BSc (Hons) from Bolton University, who has been working with and trained by Stuart Cosgrove for the past 4 years.

Charlotte specialises in:

  • Assessment and treatment of musculoskeletal conditions including back and neck pain, joint problems, muscle/tendon/ligament strains and sprains, sporting injuries and postural dysfunction, through treatment methods such as mobilisation, manipulation, soft tissue release techniques, electrotherapy and acupucture
  • Sports Massage - half hour and one hour appointments available
  • Personal Training - for toning, fat loss or muscle gain
  • Rehabilitation Programmes
  • Mini-Medicals - available through a non-invasive method to gather information about your overall fitness by testing blood pressure, oxygen levels, lung function, body composition and pH levels
  • Diet plans - tailored to your need and preferences

She has also completed the Bernard Nolan Acupuncture Course which specialises in acupuncture techniques for sports injuries.

Charlotte MacGill is also a competitive figure athlete, who currently competes at Universe level.

    John Ramsay BSc (Hons) MCSP


John Ramsay is our most recent addition to the team. He is a fully qualified Physiotherapist with a BSc (Hons) from the University of Salford. He came to us on a university placement and his personal qualities, work ethic and skill shone through, since the beginning of 2013 he has worked alongside Stuart Cosgrove as part of his continual development.

John specialises in musculoskeletal conditions including back and neck pains, joint problems, muscle/tendon/ligament strains and sprains, sport injuries and postural dysfunction.

He has also completed the Acupuncture Association of Chartered Physiotherapies (AACP) course, which he uses as a treatment modality along with manipulations, electrotherapy, soft tissue work and manual therapy.

John has a Diploma in Fitness Instructing and Personal Training from Premier International Training and has 10 years experience in this industry. He is a motivated and knowledgeable therapist which is reflected in the personal training sessions he offers. These sessions are individually tailored and take into account any current or pre-existing injuries ensuring effective and safe treatment. He also has qualifications in nutrition and can offer tailored diet plans to meet individual fitness goals. John is also a competitive bodybuilder who can offer advice on different aspects of show preparation, bodybuilding specific training and nutrition.
